TS Transport & Vehicle Registration Process in Telangana

The 1988 Motor Vehicle Act requires vehicle owners in Telangana to obtain a vehicle registration number in order to drive their vehicle legally in the state. Registration of the vehicle must be made within 30 days from the date of purchase of the vehicle. The application for registration of a motor vehicle in Telangana must be made in Telangana by submission of the documents referred to below.

Documents needed for Vehicle Registration in Telangana State:

  • Application in Form 20
  • Sales certificate in Form 21
  • Form 22 i.e. road worthiness certificate
  • Address proof documents
  • In case of Ex-Army Vehicle, sales certificate has to be obtained from concerned authorities in Form 21
  • PUC certificate
  • In case of registration of an imported vehicle, custom clearance certificate
  • Applicable application fee
  • Tax to be paid as per the Telangana Motor Vehicles Act, 1988

Note:  Forms 21, 22 and 22A are provided by the vehicle dealer / manufacturer together with the invoice.

Issue of the duplicate registration certificate

An application for a Duplicate Registration Certificate (RC) can be submitted on Form 26 if it is stolen or lost. If the vehicle is covered by a financial agency / bank, the lender must also credit the application form. The form must be completed and sent to the registry together with the following documents:

  • PUC (Pollution Under Control) Certificate

Renewal of Vehicle Registration in Telangana

Renewal of the vehicle registration in Telangana must be done 15 days after the issue date of the number. Renewal of the registration of the vehicle can be done in RTO Telangana by presenting the following documents:

  • Vehicle registration certificate
  • Vehicle insurance
  • PUC certificate
  • Form 25
  • Applicable application fees

An application for renewal of vehicle registration has to be made before 60 days from the date of expiry.
